What Next?

If you have recently been born into the Kingdom of God! Congratulations! You are now what the scripture refers to as a “citizen of Heaven” and have become one of the “fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.” Let’s quickly look at what Jesus said in John 3:1-7.

“There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.  This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’”

When you received Christ as Savior and declared Him as Lord, you made the first Biblical steps of your journey into exploring the depth of the riches both in the wisdom and knowledge of God. Your spirit was “born of God” and you became a “Kingdom Citizen.”

You now have a whole new future and hope! You now have access to what the Bible refers to as a heavenly inheritance. It is important for you learn what this means and how to personally develop your faith and understanding so that you can enjoy the fulness of God’s promises for you in this present life. The Bible calls this process “discipleship.”

As a new believer, your next step is to connect with others who are experiencing the same process. This creates opportunity for each of us to receive and give the good things of God, as we experience them. It is not just attending church to learn from a sermon. It about interacting with others who are walking in the promises and power of God!

In high school I received Christ into my life and became born again. Yet as a new believer I didn’t realize the importance of knowing, and growing closer to Him and His people. Under the influences surrounding me in my college years I fell away from my faith in Christ. Yet, just a few years later, I became very hungry for truth. A friend invited me to a neighborhood bible study. That’s where I learned about God’s love and the truth of His word. Joyfully they helped me along the way, and soon I was helping others grow and experience the good news of Christ. Gathering and growing together with others in a small group environment is the catalyst for victorious living!
